The Royal Highland Show is one of the largest annual live events in Scotland. 2023 also saw the arrival of the Golden Shears to Scotland and was QTV’s third year as production and facilities partner.
In collaboration with QTV, RHASS has expanded the fibre connectivity of the Ingliston site to the newly appointed broadcast centre. The newly installed single mode fibre infrastructure allowed us to further centralise all operations for the week using Grass Valley and Telecast Sheds for camera transport and create a site-wide post production network that interlinked all replay servers to a central network attached storage (NAS) system.
The main studio gallery was built in the ground floor of the broadcast centre using QTV’s Ross Ultrix as the backbone of operations, allowing us to use the office space as an extended production gallery for the director, vision-mixer, producer, PA, graphics, replay and teleprompt.
QTV’s remote engineering vehicles provided camera control at each arena. OB1 provided four-camera coverage of the Golden Shears competition for the second RHS TV livestream. Although this was delivered locally, the replay server was connected to our post-production network to enable quick delivery of VT inserts and clips from the shoot-edit facilities at the broadcast centre.
RHSTV is a perfect illustration of the expansive technical capabilities of QTV and its ambition to drive broadcast standards into the online livestreaming environment.
